Women in Guruve, mainly pregnant ones, are now living in fear amid reports that a lot of pregnancies are disappearing mysteriously.
The claims come barely a month after My Zimbabwe published an article about two Guruve women who lost their pregnancies after spending 9 months with big tummies. Nurses are said to have even confirmed that they were pregnant but nothing came out when they went into labour. The two victims of the strange development stay in Chief Bepura's area in Guruve. One of the two women is, in fact, said to have carried her pregnancy for 10 solid months but both of them did not deliver any baby.
The two unfortunate women are Keresina Mushonyi (37), a villager in headman Chitauro's village in Madhuro kraal and Calister Matirira (20) of Matirira kraal. Reports say the two women had registered their pregnancies at the clinic and would regularly go for check ups but they got the shock of their lives when the foetus disappeared from the womb on unclear circumstances.
Meanwhile, another woman reportedly 'joined the crew' after her pregnancy strangely vanished. Gladys Chigangaidze (35) from headman Mugugu's village said she was heavily pregnant for nine good months before her pregnancy disappeared.
"A lot of pregnant women in Guruve are now living in fear because so many of us have mysteriously lost our pregnancies. It's only that a lot of women can not easily reveal their ordeal to the whole world but a great number of women's pregnancies disappeared on unclear circumstances. I was so filled with joy when I got pregnant as I looked forward to give birth to my second child. I got pregnant sometime mid last year and I even went to Mudhindo clinic where I registered as a pregnant woman. Much to my surprise after nine months my tummy unexpectedly flattened. If it was a miscarriage then I was supposed to figure it out by bleeding," she said.
Gladys said since the tragedy occurred she has not yet resumed her menstrual cycle.
"I do not know if I will ever get pregnant again since I have not begun my menstrual cycle. My very first born child passed away and I was left with one child," she added.
Gladys said she got married to her husband, Sucks Mugugu, in 1995 and the two strongly believe that this is a case of witchcraft.
"Some Guruve women vacate this area once they get pregnant. They will only come back after giving birth. Without that one is most likely to lose the pregnancy," said Gladys.
Her husband, Suck Mugugu said: "I'm now appealing to those who are well equipped to assist my wife so that she can resume her menstrual cycle and get pregnant again."
Meanwhile, our news crew managed to get hold of Doctor Kabeya, a maternity who is originally from Belguim but is currently based in Zimbabwe.
"When one gets pregnant, her womb expands. Doctors can even see if the foetus is properly positioned in its mother's womb. If not, we can position the foetus well on time. If the woman is not pregnant she would be notified early," said Dr Kabeya.
He added that he has never witnessed a situation where a confirmed pregnant woman mysteriously loses her foetus without either aborting or having miscarriage.
