A man in China chopped off every finger on one hand in an accident with an electric saw – but is expected to make a full recovery after doctors managed to stitch them all back on.
The workman didn't realise the extent of his injuries as he was wearing thick gloves at the time of the accident, which caught the digits when they were cut off.
He couldn't take off the glove because it was too painful after he sawed into his flesh, so showed up at the Harbin Orthopaedic Hospital telling the staff only that he had injured his hand.
The whole glove had to be X-rayed. When the image came through, staff were shocked to see that the fingers had been totally severed from the palm of his hand.
The accident happened when the man, a construction worker, slipped while operating the saw and cut into his left hand.
Despite losing large amounts of blood, he managed to walk himself to the hospital where he was met by Doctor Wang Junjie.
He was rushed into surgery, where surgeons stitched back all his digits as quickly as possible, in an operation which lasted eleven hours.
Doctor Wang said he and his medical team were able to successfully save all of the fingers without any complications.
The worker is currently recovering in hospital. When the hand is healed, it should work again as normal.
