A prominent Masvingo traditional healer, Julius Dehwa who is also the Zimbabwe Traditional Healers Association (ZINATHA) inspector has gone blind allegedly after he extorted a car from a client.
ZINATHA regional chairperson, Prosper "Mpofu" Dohwai, in an interview last week, said an extraordinary meeting will be held in the next few days where disciplinary action will be taken against Dehwa.
He said there were numerous allegations of corruption and extortion against Dhewa and a clique operating under him and chances were that Dhewa would be fired from ZINATHA.
Reporters contacted Dhewa who confirmed that he had gone blind but he refuted allegations that this was because he had extorted a car from a client.
He said ZINATHA had no legal basis to sack him and that allegations of corruption being levelled against him were false.
"Dohwai and other ZINATHA officials are just jealous of the fact that I have since established my own association called Zimbabwe Association of Traditional Healers (ZATAH) which outweighs ZINATHA in terms of income generation," said Dhewa.
Dohwai said the ZINATHA regional offices at Kyle House in Masvingo are inundated with complaints from people who lost their livestock and money to Dehwa and his gang of self-styled traditional healers.
"As a reputable association we feel that Dehwa's conduct has tarnished our image. We are going to appoint an interim Inspector, while elections to choose a substantive will be held soon," said Dohwai.
He said ZINATHA currently has 7 000 members in the province.
