A man from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, UK, has appeared in court after allegedly raping a Shetland pony.
Alan Barnfield, described as a 'sexual deviant', was found by police 'sweating profusely and smelling strongly of horses' after being called by worried residents.
In his rucksack they found several cans of Lynx deodorant, a length of white electrical cable, a handheld water sprayer, a cloth, a metal dog chain and two bottles of Lucozade.
A court heard that DNA from one of the two horses, called Sky, was found on a sample taken from Barfield.
He also had bestiality images and films on his mobile phone.
Owner Jodie Walton found Sky in discomfort the day after the alleged sexual assault at Oak Tree Stables.
Sheffield Crown Court heard that she called a vet who carried out an examination.
Prosecutor Louise Reevell said Barfield was spotted putting something around the neck of the Shetland pony and leading it and another horse to the darkened end of the paddock.
He was seen by residents who thought he was going to steal the two ponies, at around 12.30am on August 8, 2012.
Barfield said he was 'just out walking' and denies sex with an animal.
The trial continues.
