Residents who live next to a graveyard in Ratau, Thaba Nchu in the Free State claim evil ghosts are stealing their food and playing nasty tricks.
They say the graveyard has been growing for years, and now it's just a few steps from their houses.
Although the graveyard looks peaceful, residents say it's home to evil spirits that haunt them at night.
Martha, who is a training traditional healer, said she was a victim of a ghost's shocking trick one night a few weeks ago when she went to an outside toilet.
"I don't know how it tricked me, but I woke up on top of a grave the next morning," said Martha.
Another resident said: "This ghost doesn't give us peace. It eats our leftovers. We are afraid to leave food in the pot as it's gone in the morning."
But resident Bareng Marogoa (39) said he's been living there for years and has never seen a ghost.
Thaba Nchu prophet Tefo Modise said other incidents like this had happened in the area.
People asked him for cleansing ceremonies after coming into contact with ghosts.
Some of his clients claim the ghosts are unruly.
"My clients say they steal and terrorise them in their homes," said Tefo.
He said if people hang pig fat and horseshoes in their houses the ghosts will not enter them.
Mangaung Metro's Qondile Khedama said it will be difficult for the municipality to move people who have lived there for more than 50 years.
