Singer Kelly Khumalo, has described how her boyfriend, Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa, collapsed on her after being shot by alleged burglars at her house in Vosloorus, reports the Sunday Times.

Detailed accounts of the event were provided by three witnesses, including Khumalo, who said two gunmen stormed into her house at about 20:00 last Sunday, demanding that the occupants hand over phones and money.

She said one was wearing a black hoodie and the other had dreadlocks.

According to Khumalo, she ran and locked herself in her mother’s bedroom. One attacker tried to open the door and when the second attacker went to help his accomplice, Meyiwa and another occupant jumped up and tried to stop him.

Khumalo then opened the door and she and her mother tried to push the first assailant out of the house.

It was then that she heard two gunshots – including the shot that hit Meyiwa in the back. She said Meyiwa ran to her and then fell on her. When she rolled him over, she saw the blood and realised he had been shot.

Meyiwa was rushed to hospital, but died in the emergency unit.

It was reported late on Saturday that three people were being questioned in connection with the murder of Meyiwa, Gauteng police said.

"Investigators are in the process of interrogating the three suspects who will be placed on an ID [identity] parade later. If any evidence is found to link them to the crime, they will be charged," Brigadier Neville Malila said.

He said 13 people in total had been questioned in connection with the killing of the Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates keeper.

Divisional commissioner of detective services Lieutenant General Vinesh Moonoo said a pattern was beginning to emerge as investigations continued.

"We are in a much better position now and have an improved understanding of what could have transpired on the day of the murder. We continue to follow many leads that we have received and indications at this stage is that they may have been more than three people involved," he said.

"We remain very pleased with the progress we are making and the overwhelming support from members of the public. There is no doubt that there is still a lot of work to be done to finalise the investigation and ensure that we can link all the suspects to the murder."

Moonoo said investigations were at a very sensitive stage.

"We are not able to give minute details about all developments in the investigation and will give an update during a media briefing on Monday," he said.

A man appeared in court on Friday in connection with his murder. Police said he was identified in an identity parade.

The 25-year-old Vosloorus resident, Zenokuhle Mbatha, was arrested and charged on the basis of the positive identification, Malila said at the time.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said Mbatha would appear in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court again on 11 November where he was expected to apply for legal aid.

Meyiwa was laid to rest at the Heroes Acre cemetery in Chesterville, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday.

More than 40 000 football fans packed the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban, KZN on Saturday to bid farewell to Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain and goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.

Senzo's coffin was ushered onto the pitch by cops and Orlando Pirates players.

The mood was sombre at the state funeral, and many fans were in tears.

One mourner had to leave the stadium by ambulance after he fell onto the pitch.

Senzo's wife, Mandisa, was deeply emotional. Speaker after speaker was full of passionate praise for Senzo, who was killed in an apparent robbery at the family house of singer Kelly Khumalo, his lover.

Programme directors, Pastor Vusi Dube and MEC Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha, praised Senzo for his role in soccer.

Kaizer Chiefs boss Kaizer Motaung said: "The Meyiwa family – your loss is ours too.

"This child was ours as well. Senzo was given a talent, and we are crying with you."

A video of Senzo was shown on the stadium screens as Samuel Meyiwa saluted his son.

Sfiso Ncwane's hit Kulungile Baba played in the background.

Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza thanked everybody who played a role in organising Senzo's memorial and the funeral.

Safa president Danny Jordaan said: "Our condolences go to the Meyiwa family for giving us this wonderful gift. Hamba kahle, Senzo."

Minister of Sport Fikile Mbalula said: "Akwehlanga lungehlanga. We've lost a hero of heroes, and those who killed him will be found as the wheels of justice are grinding.

Senzo will forever live among us." Before Senzo was brought to the stadium, his coffin was taken to the site of his late twin brother Siya's grave for ritual purposes.

Only the family and invited guests went to Heroes Acre Cemetery in Chesterville, Durban.

Senzo was buried next to well-known journalist Nat Nakasa.
