A singer from the Mexican version of The Voice has died after being shot in an ambush after celebrating his 45th birthday with friends
Alejandro 'Jano' Fuentes was shot in the head three times on Thursday when someone approached the car he was in, and ordered him to get out of the vehicle at gunpoint.
The Chicago Tribune reported that Fuentes refused and the gunman fired multiple shots, leaving him in critical condition as he was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.
According to the Cook County medical examiner's office, he was pronounced dead at the hospital at 2.07pm.
The US newspaper added that police said on Saturday that no one was in custody over the attack.
Victor Gulley, co-founder of A Taste of Theatre, said of his friend: "He was one of the most talented people I have ever known.
"He could sing, he could dance, he could write the music, perform it and most importantly he could teach it. I've never ever met anyone as talented as he was in those arenas."
The news comes within a week of Christina Grimmie - who appeared on the US version of The Voice - was shot while greeting fans after a concert in Orlando, Florida.
On Friday, she was laid to rest in a small memorial service in her hometown state of New Jersey.
